Flippin’s High School Drama Club will present “Stage Door,” the timeless comedy by Edna Ferber and George Kaufman, Friday and Saturday nights. The story centers on a group of young actresses struggling to establish acting careers in New York City in the l950s. The large cast features many novices to the stage as well as Flippin High’s most seasoned performers.

It took a quarter-century for “Dreamgirls” to make it from Broadway to the big screen, but it’s been worth the wait. Read the review.

Sitting through Joe Carnahan’s bloody and hyperactive “Smokin’ Aces” is like hearing a joke with a great set-up but a lousy punch line. Your reaction to the film will likely be, “I just sat through all this bloodshed and debauchery and all these close-ups of a guy’s snot-crusted nose for this?” Read the review.

If KT Tunstall wins a Grammy next month, she might consider thanking two of the most unlikely people in her acceptance speech. One would be “American Idol” runner-up Katharine McPhee. The other: jazz trumpeter Olu Dara, father of the rapper Nas. Without them, Tunstall might still be strumming a guitar in London coffee shops.
